Nonprofit Reaches Goal to Build Robocop Statue in Detroit
Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 12:20PM With the help of Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative projects, Imagination Station Detroit, a nonprofit that aims to juvenate dilapidated cities, has reached the $50,000 goal to build a Robocop statue in Detriot.
It all started earlier this month when someone sent Detroit Mayor Dave Bing a tweet, suggesting since Philly has a statue of Rocky, RoboCop would be a great mascot for the city. The mayor replied, saying “There are not any plans to erect a statue to Robocop. Thank you for the suggestion.”
But this random tweet turned into a call to action. A Facebook group was formed and today, enough funds were raised to make this happen.
Imagination Station has offered space on its campus for the RoboCop statue.
