Will the airline security craziness ever end?
Last week, a JetBlue flight out of JFK Airport was grounded because one of the pilots lost his government-issued firearm.
The pilot, Michael Connery Jr., was scheduled to fly an 8:10 a.m. flight to Pittsburgh on Thursday. While he waited to board the plane, Connery set his bag down and talked to another pilot. A passenger from another flight accidentally picked up his bag, along with hers, not realizing that it contained a loaded 40-caliber handgun.
Once the passenger realized her mistake, she dropped the bag into an empty seat on the plane. A passenger noticed and told a flight attendant about the unclaimed backpack.
Connery, freaked out over losing his gun, waited nearly 40 minutes before notifying his bosses, sources said. Both flights were delayed while investigators tried to sort out the incident.
TSA confiscated Connery's gun and is investigating the incident, sources said.
Connery was not allowed to serve as co-pilot for his flight, which landed in Pittsburgh more than an hour late.
