Google has been granted a patent that combines augmented reality with the company's own Maps Navigation and Street View technology.
The result? Potentially, an application that combines your GPS system with incredible new functionality, such as panoramic images, 3-D models and full-motion video. Google could even weave in live video feeds to correct the driver's perspective.
As Engadget reports, the idea is to make navigation easier by matching your GPS' screen view of the road to what you're seeing out your windshield. Maybe one day that GPS screen view could be projected across your entire windshield, displaying your route and location information right before your eyes. Talk about fool-proof.
