On the 11th anniversary of 9/11, the University of Pennsylvania opened Penn Vet Working Dog Center, a search-and-resuce dog-training center. The Center was created by Dr. Cynthia Otto, a veterinarian who was part of a team that searched for survivors with detection dogs at ground zero the days following 9/11. The Center will train the next generation of puppies. At the core of the Center are a breeding program and genetic research, both of which will advance the health and performance of working dogs whose natural abilities have long been used in service of our country.
