Essentials for All Apple Device Owners

TechCrunch recently posted on a iPhone owner's struggle to get his device found back after leaving it in a Starbucks bathroom in Athens, Greece. Even after determining who the culprit was with the 'Play Sound' feature of 'Find My iPhone' and confronting him in the crowded shop, the guy had the guts to deny the accusation -- while his pocket was ringing.
We were also excited to see Prism Skylabs founder and In Hard Focus' own Steve Russell referenced in the post for a mishap that happened late last year when he forgot his iPad in the backseat pocket on a cross-country flight. While he was able to track it to Carriage Green Apartments in Aurora, CO and had many folks rooting for him (and offering words of wisdom) on Facebook, he was never able to recover it.
So our readers don't have to suffer the pain of losing their favorite Apple device down the road, a few words of wisdom for users from both of these experiences:
1. Enable the 'Find My iPhone' feature. It's as easy as Settings --> iCloud --> On. It's that simple.
2. Write down the serial number for all your devices. Makes it much easier to deal with the police, the airlines and various lost and found groups Steve contacted to help in the search.
3. There's also the app Hidden which has helped at least one person recover their stolen MacBook (and inspired him to create a fascinating Tumblr about the situation).
While Steve didn't have the luck to recover his device, here's to hoping the 'Find My iPhone' feature helps other owners get a happier ending.
