Tacit is Like Sonar for the Blind
Monday, August 29, 2011 at 1:40PM
Tacit is one of those tech innovations that has the potential to change lives in a truly meaningful way (even more than your iPhone "changed your life").
Tacit is a hand-mounted device that provides the user haptic feedback based on the proximity of objects and other people that it sensed using ultrasonic sensors. In short, it's like sonar for the blind.
Since Tacit quickly senses objects anywhere from 1 inch to 10 feet away, the technology has the potential to enable visually-impaired people to do almost anything. The creator admits that the gadget still requires some tweeking to be fully effective. But it sounds like he's on a groundbreaking path.
