Making Augmented Reality a Reality Using iPad 2 and Kinect
Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10:06AM iOS developer Laan Labs is making augmented reality a reality with the help of an iPad 2 and Kinect. In a video posted on Gizmodo Australia this week, they showed what they're doing to record 3D video from a Microsoft Kinect system and transfer it to an iPad 2 as AR. Check out the video above. You won't be disappointed.
Some pretty amusing examples of how this might be used include a special birthday card for Grandma (ballons included), a 3D musical performance, or my favorite of their suggestions, a reenactment of Princess Leia's holographic scene. Many more possibilities to be explored -- and as Gizmodo suggests, live Kinect-recorded 3D video chat may not be too far off.
