Playstation Vita's Facial Recognition is Ahead of its Time

Watch out, Microsoft Kinect. Playstation Vita is coming for you!

Sony recently revealed a preview of its next gaming console and simultaneously teased its groundbreaking new Face Control technology. Although the facial recognition software is still being polished, this demo illustrates its promise.

Just like Kinect, the software replicates large body movements. But it also goes beyond its Microsoft counterpart by mimicking users’ facial expressions, such as raised or lowered eyebrows.

Face Control was designed with two goals in mind: controlling games and, amazingly, changing viewpoints mid-play. I for one can’t wait to try the next generation of interactive video games.
