The Future of Nutrition Management: Edible RFIDs

NutriSmart is a food tracking system, developed by Hannes Harms, a design engineering student at the Royal College of Art in London, that employs edible RFID tags. By scanning these RFID tags that are embedded in the food itself, which is already in use for medical purposes, food shopping and even cooking can be automated and our fridges can even notifiy us when a product has spoiled.

In addition to NutriSmart, the SmartPlate works by analyzing foods placed on it. Reading the RFID tags, it can identify what kind of food is placed on it and gives us nutritional information, such as calories and fat, along with the history of the food. It can also warn those with food allergies whether the food is safe to eat.
