Biometrics Replaces Library Cards in U.K. School
Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 11:32AM As reported by Telegraph, students at Higher Lane Primary in Manchester can now borrow and return books from the school library by using their fingerprints.
Students would swipe a bar code inside the book they want borrow and press their thumb to a scanner to authorize the loan. Books are returned in the same way.
The program is voluntary, and the biometric system is heavily encrypted with no images of fingerprints being stored.
