San Francisco Votes to Require All Cell Phones to Display Their SAR
Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 12:41PM
San Francisco may be scaring cell phone users -- which is virtually everybody -- for no reason.
The city voted to require all cell phones to be sold in the city to display the specific absorption rate -- the rate at which energy is absorbed by the body when exposed to a radio frequency electromagnetic field -- in a font no less than 11-point type.
While absorption rates do vary by phone, there is no scientific evidence that the minute radiation emitted leads to cancer or other health problems.
It will be interesting to see what San Franciscans do with this information. Will it encourage them to purchase phones with the lowest absorption rate? Stay tuned.
