Mapping Tool Tracks Oil Spill Effects
Friday, May 7, 2010 at 9:18AM
The Louisiana Bucket Brigade has created a Google Maps-based tool that gathers information from residents on the impact of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill as it reaches the coast.
Using Twitter, text messages and e-mail, citizens can file reports regarding anything from wildlife endangerment to job loss. The same open-source software used to create the program was designed to record post-election violence in Kenya. It's also employed in Atlanta to precisely track crime statistics, which helps with urban security efforts.

Just wanted to let you know that your blog is not showing up properly on the BlackBerry Browser. Anyway, I’m now on the RSS feed on my laptop, so it works!
This oil disaster is one of the biggest problems which has ever been. I hope with the help of BP the most damage can be stopped.
Great site. A lot of useful information here. I’m sending it to some friends!
Thanks for the over view.
