See the New TSA Pat-down Procedures in Action
Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 9:01AM If you're on the fence about the Transportation Security Administration's new, more invasive pat-down procedures, take a look at the video above. Around the 0:45 mark, you'll see a demonstration of the new method and, later, footage of a TSA agent in action.
With the blogosphere -- and the traveling public -- up in arms about the new pat-down techniques, surely something has to give soon. However, TSA is maintaining that the change is a good thing: "There is no fondling, squeezing, groping or any sort of sexual assault taking place at airports. You have a professional workforce carrying out procedures they were trained to perform to keep aviation security safe.”
Meanwhile, the head of a large flight attendant union has advised members to request a private pat-down: "We don't want them in uniform going through this enhanced screening where their private areas are being touched in public," Deborah Volpe, vice president of the Association of Flight Attendants Local 66, told a Phoenix news station. "They actually make contact with the genital area."
What are your thoughts on the new pat-down techniques? I haven't traveled since they were implemented, but after watching the video I'm glad for it.
